Gerald (Jerry) Stapleton is Director for Distance Education and Faculty Associate at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine Department of Medical Education. The DME Distance Education Office supports faculty and students in the development of and participation in web-based, blended, and technology enhanced courses and programs for students and professionals in medicine and health care. These programs include courses of study such as the Master of Health Professions Education degree program and the GME Core Curriculum for residents and fellows, as well as programs in Undergraduate Medical Education, Mental Health, and HIPAA training. The DME Distance Education Office also manages the broadcast of medical education seminars using IP technology. Current participation in all DME Distance Education programs exceeds 3500 medical students, residents, and professionals.

Prior to joining the Department of Medical Education, Mr. Stapleton held administrative leadership positions in adult education programs, in public and private schools, and in business. Mr. Stapleton's research interests are focused on instructional technologies, curriculum development, and virtual learning communities in the field of adult distance education. Gerald received a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from Purdue University.
