Applying to the MD Programs

 

The College’s MD programs prepare students for the practice of medicine with an outstanding science education and extensive clinical experience. First-year students are assigned to either the Chicago campus  or the Urbana campus.   Chicago students continue at the Chicago campus until graduation.

Urbana 1st year students (M1s) either remain at Urbana until graduation , or move to Peoria or Rockford as M2s and remain at these campuses until graduation.

Traditional MD Program:

In addition to our traditional MD program, there are three specialized programs which are described in the below table:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION RMED is a program designed to train and support family physicians in the practice of medicine
in rural Illinois.
The GMED program supplements the existing curriculum of the College of Medicine by adding
a global focus to
existing small-group activities in the M1
and M2 years, by
creating co-curricular opportunities for the GMED students, and by offering elective and capstone experiences related to global health.

 

UMED is a program for students who plan, upon completion of residency training, to locate their practices in Illinois urban communities in specialties needed by those communities. It is a unique program that integrates special UMED activities with the regular medical school curriculum.
