There is a tremendous shortage of underrepresented minority physicians (URM) in the U.S., and an even greater shortage in academic positions. URM physicians are more likely to remain in the assistant professor rank, not lead departments, and not become residency/clerkship directors. The purpose of this fellowship is to help mentor, support, and build minority physician educators.
Launched in 2012, this program is designed to help address the national gap of insufficient URM academicians. We are seeking faculty applicants interested in furthering themselves as clinicians and teachers. Two fellows are selected annually for this 2-year opportunity.
-5 years or less as a UIC faculty member
-Current rank must be non-tenure track clinical assistant professor
-Have available time for 20% FTE buy-out
-Permission from Department Head for fellowship activities
-Complete application for this program and the Scholars for Teaching Excellence Faculty Fellowship (STEFF)
